Ball Valve Types

There are so many ways to classify a ball valve. Either their casting material or end connections. The ball valves are available in so many varieties. Ball Valves are available in a single body, two-piece design, and three-piece design. In this article, we classify the ball valve on the basis of its ball seating arrangement. The hollow ball is the main part of this valve that allows and prevents fluid flow.

The ball valve uses a ball-shaped wheel to control flow. There are many ways to operate this valve. For example, it is a rotary motion valve that rotates with a quarter-turn. If the valve is rotated 90 degrees, the ball stops the flow of water. The valve has a small handwheel for controlling the flow of water. A ball valve can be used in many different industrial sectors, such as oil refining, petrochemicals, pulp & paper, offshore drilling, marine, shipbuilding, and renewable energy. These valves are used in many applications because they are easy to clean. Many industries use various types of Ball Valves. There are various types of Ball Valves depending on how they are used. Floating Ball Valve

With its fundamental characteristics and operations, this valve is an ideal solution for many industrial needs. Floating ball valves have the ball inside the valve that is kept in the proper position by squeezing the two elastomeric supports toward the ball. It is possible for the ball to float within the valve. Floating valves allow the fluid flow to be controlled by dropping the ball into the flowing fluid and managing elastomeric seats. In order to switch the valve from an open to a closed position, the shaft of the ball is attached at the top. This can be accomplished only by moving the shaft 90 degrees, or by quarter-turning it. Rotating the shaft applies pressure to the ball, which causes the seats to exert pressure.

Features of floating ball valves:

It is convenient to use floating ball valves up to a bore size of 10 inches because they are lightweight. They are inexpensive and are widely used due to their ease of operation. The ball valve of this type is not capable of holding heavier balls. These valves can be used safely and efficiently. Because of these characteristics, they are more suitable for a variety of complex operations.

Trunnion Ball Valve

Trunnion ball valves are the perfect solution for the problems associated with floating ball valves. High-pressure applications require less torque for this valve as compared to floating ball valves. A valve with a short shaft is known as a trunnion. In this valve, the ball is maintained by two spring-loaded or floating seats that remain connected to the ball throughout its life. Valve assemblies of this kind have the ball, the shaft, and the supporting trunnion acting as a single unit. In this way, it can resist the tremendous forces created by enormously sized balls. During operation, it can be adjusted to make it easy to move.

Features of trunnion ball valve:

All types of ball valves have size flexibility, but trunnion ball valves have the most. This type of valve requires less torque than other types.  For situations in which it needs to be actuated, the valve can be controlled by a smaller actuator. Subsequently, it is more helpful to work. The trunnion ball valve is available in a wide range of specifications and at a reasonable price.
