Hazrat Wali Astan, born in Abbottabad in the 1970s, was a Sufi mystic who left a deep imprint on the hearts and minds of his followers. Despite his religious background, Wali Astan’s livelihood was tending goats in the mountains of Abbottabad. However, after being mocked by uneducated and violent children in his village, he was forced to leave and migrate to Kahuta in the 1990s. It was here that his life took a new turn.

Spiritual Journey in Kahuta

Wali Astan’s spiritual journey began to flourish. He received Islamic religious education from Data Darbar and learned spiritual and metaphysical teachings from various renowned Sufi teachers and prominent personalities of Pakistan. Also, he devoted himself to the study of Islam and the mystical teachings of Sufism, and soon began teaching others. He applied for a position as an Urdu and Spiritual religious teacher. Luckily, he was selected to teach at KRL Model College, inside KRL, a government organization known for the enrichment of uranium.

Wali Astan taught Islam, Urdu language, and spiritual teachings to his students, including Tahir Ikram, Col. (R) Mehmood Niazi of SPD Field Detachment – I, Col (R) Nadeem Butt (Commander Officer of SPD Field Detachment in A-Location KRL Kahuta), and Dr. Ejaz Mukhtar, who became his prominent followers. His students were drawn to his teachings of love, compassion, and selflessness. They got inspiration by his profound knowledge and deep spirituality. Col (R) Mehmood Niazi was so devoted to Hazrat Wali Astan that he gave him the title of “Hazrat” in 2010 and bowed his head in front of him. The title “Hazrat” is an honorific title given to esteemed religious figures in the Islamic tradition. Hazrat Wali Astan’s followers respected and admired him for his deep spirituality, his kindness, and his selflessness. His teachings of love and compassion inspired them to become better human beings and to serve others.

Story of Col (R) Mehmood Niazi and Wali Astan

Col (R) Mehmood Niazi was a military officer (MO) of SPD (Strategic Planning Division) Field Detachment – I, stationed at A-Location KRL Kahuta. He was the son of a very prominent person, General A.A.K Niazi, who had surrendered along with his 70,000 troops in the war of Bengal and Pakistan. Bengali army forced his father A.A.K Niazi alongwith other pakistani militants to undress their shalwars. This shameful and cowardly strategic mistake made by his father had a deep impact on Col (R) Mehmood Niazi’s life. He felt a sense of guilt and shame for his father’s actions and carried it with him for many years.

It was not until Col (R) Mehmood Niazi met Hazrat Wali Astan that he found peace and solace. Wali Astan’s positive teachings and spiritual guidance helped him overcome his feelings of fear and negativity. Hazrat Wali Astan advised him to think positively and to do good for the civilians of Pakistan.

After his passing in 2022, Hazrat Wali Astan was buried inside KRL Model College for Boys, where he had taught for many years. The burial place is now known as “Astana e Walliya: Shrine of Hazrat Wali Astan RA”. The shrine has become a place of pilgrimage for Hazrat Wali Astan’s followers and those seeking spiritual guidance.

The shrine is located inside the college campus and is a beautiful and serene place. The building is simple, with white walls and a green dome. Inside, there is a small room where Hazrat Wali Astan’s grave is located. The room is full of decoration with flowers and candles, and his followers come to pay their respects and seek his blessings. The atmosphere inside the shrine is peaceful, and visitors feel a deep sense of tranquility and spirituality.
